North Kingstown – Philip I. Tandy, 87, died Sunday, March 30, 2014 at home. He was the beloved husband of Carolyn D. (Laird) Tandy with whom he celebrated their 48thwedding anniversary on July 24, 2013.

Born in Providence, the son of the late Howard C. and Valeda M. (Verrier) Tandy, he lived in East Greenwich before moving to North Kingstown in 1984. He was employed by American Steel & Aluminum of Cumberland for over 45 years retiring as Vice President of Sales.

Since Phil was a teen, when he played at the Showboat, music was a big part of his life. He learned to play the piano by ear. Many didn’t know he also played the violin. He was probably best known locally performing with Phil Tandy’s Orchestra; a group of school teachers/musicians directed by Phil. Later in life and for almost 10 years Phil played piano at Newport Bailey’s Beach Club.

His family remembers that when he wasn’t working or performing, he loved spending time on his boat. Phil’s family also remembers him as quite a “character” and as having a dry sense of humor.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his granddaughter & legally adopted daughter Tandy Lynn Reardon; his daughter Marilyn E. Pascale & her husband Gerald of FL; his grandsons Tyler Albaugh, Jake & Gerald Pascale and his cousin Audrey Doris of Smithfield. He was the father of the late Pamela Lynn Reardon, RN and cousin of the late Beverly Tartaglia.

His funeral service will be held on Friday, April 4 at 10:00 am at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick. Calling hours Thursday 5-7 PM. Burial with military honors in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, North Kingstown.

Donations in his memory may be made to American Parkinson Disease Association, Inc., P.O. Box 41659, Providence, RI 02940 or to Alzheimer’s Association Rhode Island, 245 Waterman Street, Suite 306, Providence, RI 02906.
