Tuesday, July 3, 2012 following 10 am funeral service at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home (Section 63 Lot 12 Grave 1)

East Greenwich – George R. Congdon Jr., 82, of Greenwich Bay Manor and formerly of Brookside Drive, died Saturday, June 30, 2012 at the Roger Williams Medical Center in Providence. He was the beloved husband of Frances A. (Keyes) Congdon with whom he celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on February 6, 2012.

Born in Providence, a son of the late George R. and Gladys L. (Ferrent) Congdon, Sr., he previously lived in West Warwick. He was a United States Air Force veteran.

He worked for more than ten years as a mechanic and supervisor at Colony Ford in Warwick previously working for International Harvester and for his uncle at East Greenwich Motors. As a member of Local 1017, International Association of Machinists and while working at International Harvester he served as union treasurer.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church of East Greenwich. As a Mason George a fifty-year member of King Solomon Lodge 16 F.&A.M., East Greenwich now affiliated with Manchester Lodge 12, Coventry; a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Providence and of the Rhode Island Shriners where he was a past commander of the Legion of Honor. He was also a member of the Mahaba Club and of the Masonic Veteran’s Association.

He was active in the Order of the Eastern Star; not only as a member who served twice as worthy patron of Adah Chapter he also served the Grand Chapter of Rhode Island as grand worthy patron from 1976-1977 and was a member of the Betsey Williams Chapter.

His wife is his only immediate survivor. He was the father of the late George R. Congdon, III.

His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick. Calling hours will be on Monday from 6:00 – 8:00 PM during which both a Masonic memorial service and an Eastern Star memorial service will be held. Burial with military honors will be in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, North Kingstown. Memorial gifts made to In-Sight, 43 Jefferson Blvd. #1, Warwick, RI 02888 would be appreciated.
