CHESHIRE – Lawrence Allan Cross Jr., LCDR USN Ret., passed away on June 27th, 2012 due to complications arising from Parkinson’s Disease. He was the husband of Anne Purdom Cross.

Larry was born on May 17, 1939 in Ann Arbor, MI, the son of the late Lawrence Allan Cross and Camille (Wells) Cross. He obtained his BS in Physics and Mathematics from the University of North Carolina and his MS in Nuclear Engineering from Pennsylvania State University. He served his country in the U.S. Navy for over 20 years where he was instrumental in ship and submarine construction and repair. During his 20 years he received numerous medals and awards, including the National Defense Service Medal; the Navy Unit Commendation; the Vietnam Service Medal; the Navy Expeditionary Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal, as well as several Submarine Insignia Pins. Larry’s final assignment before his retirement was at Electric Boat in New London, CT in nuclear submarine construction.

He was employed and retired from American Nuclear Insurers in Glastonbury, CT and was an adjunct faculty member of Post University in Waterbury where he was a pioneer in online instruction. He was a member of the Cheshire United Methodist Church. Larry and Anne sailed the Silver Dolphin out of Crocker’s Boatyard in New London, CT and are members of Baldwin Yacht Club.

In addition to his wife of 46 years, Larry is survived by his son, Robert Allan Cross, his wife Jean Worthington Cross and their children, Thomas and William of North Kingstown, RI; his daughter, Lucy Caroline Aumann, her husband Shad Aumann and their daughters Olivia and Wilhelmina of Middleton, WI; and Larry’s siblings, Donald Cross of Flower Mound, TX, Ronald Cross of Flint, MI, and Betty Wilson of Ann Arbor, MI.

Arrangements – Calling hours will be held on Friday, June 29, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Alderson Funeral Home at 615 S. Main St. in Cheshire, CT. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 30 at 11 a.m. at the Cheshire United Methodist Church at 205 Academy Road in Cheshire, CT. Burial will take place on Monday, July 2, 2012 at 11a.m. at the Quidnessett Memorial Park in North Kingstown, RI. Memorial contributions may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, Grand Central Station P.O. Box 4777, New York, NY 10163-4777 or to the American Parkinson’s Disease Association (APDA), 27 Allendale Drive, North Haven, CT 06473.
