Saturday, June 16, 2012 following 9am funeral from the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home and 10am Mass of Christian Burial in
St. Kevin Church (Section 102 Lot 1 Grave 5)

VENDITTO, JOHN G., PH.D., age 88, of Carlton Avenue, Warwick, died on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at Kent County Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Marjorie L. (Renick) Venditto.

Born in Cranston, a son of the late Joseph E. and Rose V. (Grossi) Venditto, he moved to Warwick in 1953. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. A graduate of LaSalle Academy in Providence, he earned bachelor’s degrees from the University of Rhode Island and Bryant College, a master’s degree from Boston College, and a doctorate from Nova Southeastern University. Dr. Venditto began his teaching career in the Warwick Public Schools in 1953, accepted his first administrative position in 1960, and served as an Assistant Superintendent of Schools in the Warwick schools from 1962 to 1986. He later worked as an arbitrator/mediator in the resolution of numerous labor disputes throughout the New England area and beyond. He was the first president of the North American Association of Education Negotiators.

He is survived by three sons, Michael J. Venditto of Coventry, Stephen J. Venditto of West Warwick, and John G. Venditto, Jr. of Warwick; three daughters, Deborah A. Leamy, Barbara M. DeGregorio, and Gina M. Muto, all of Warwick; two brothers, Alfred S. Venditto of Warwick and Robert F. Venditto of Cranston. He had thirteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late S. Joseph Venditto.

His funeral will be held on Saturday, June 16, at 9 a.m. from the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Spring Green, Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Kevin Church, 333 Sandy Lane, Warwick. Visiting hours are Friday 4-7 p.m. Burial with military honors will be in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, North Kingstown.
