West Warwick – Kent A. Clarke, 32, of Tiogue Avenue died December 9, 2010 at Rhode Island hospital from injuries he received earlier in the week in an automobile accident. Born in Providence, he was a beloved son of Gary R. and Lynda M. (Cook) Clarke Sr. of Coventry. Kent was a 1996 graduate of Coventry High School and he studied sign language at the Rhode Island School for the Deaf.

He worked as a special education teacher for the Coventry School Department. He later worked for the Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families, for Ocean State Community Resources Inc. and for Perspectives Inc. as a one-on-one assistant and caregiver to children with special needs. He also was a volunteer for Special Olympics held at the University of Rhode Island.

Kent loved to sing and dance and for him “life was his stage”. He was a very loving, caring and giving individual who was “the glue that held his family together”. He loved to cook and entertain. He would “light up a room” whenever he walked in and he cherished his role as a “confidant” for his niece and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Kent is survived by his brother Gary R. Clark Jr. of West Warwick; his sister Kerri A. Gierhart of Coventry; his twin sister Kelli A. Clarke of West Warwick; his six nephews, Cory, Billy, Alex and Ryan Gierhart, Gavin DiFranco and Mason Clarke; his niece Hailee Clarke; his two great nieces, McKenzie Gierhart and Madison Ferrara and a child he has taken care of for fourteen years, Matthew Goodness.

Relatives and friends were invited to calling hours on Sunday, December 12, 2010 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick and to a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, December 13th at 10:00 AM in St. Gregory the Great Church, 360 Cowesett Road, Warwick. Donations made to the Kent Clarke Fund c/o any Sovereign Bank branch would be greatly appreciated. Information and condolences at www.carpenterjenks.com.
