Wednesday, May 2, 2012 following 10:00am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Gregory the Great Church (Section 19B Lot 11 Grave 7)
DiMASE, JOSEPH D. MD FACP, FACG, 79 of Warwick passed away on April 28, 2012, after a long illness. Born on January 18, 1933 in Providence, he was a son of the late Joseph and Mary DiMase.
Following his medical training he remained a lifelong resident of Rhode Island. He was married for 20 years and had 4 children by Anne W. DiMase. He was the loving husband of Susan L. DiMase for 35 years and had 2 children by her. He was the devoted father of Debora Omari, Laura Chellis, Sheryl DiMase, Daniel DiMase, Christopher DiMase, and Jennifer DiMase. He leaves behind 9 grandchildren, a sister, Marie Radoccia, and a brother, Richard DiMase.
Dr. DiMase graduated from Classical High School, the University of Rhode Island and Tufts University Medical School. He did his medical training in Cincinnati, Providence, Boston, and Philadelphia. He spent 2 years in the Army at the Valley Forge Army Hospital. He began his practice of Gastroenterology in 1966 and was a founding member of University Gastroenterology and Bayside Endoscopy Center. He was a member and Governor of the American College of Physicians. He was a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology and was awarded the first service award given by that organization for his work in the SCUP (Screening Colonoscopy for the Underserved Population) program in Rhode Island. He was a staff member and teacher in the gastrointestinal program in the Brown Alpert Medical School at Rhode Island Hospital. He was a longtime board member of the Audubon Society of Rhode Island.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, May 2nd at 10:00am at St. Gregory the Great Church, 360 Cowesett Rd., Warwick. Burial with military honors will be in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, North Kingstown. Calling hours: Tuesday 4-8pm at the Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St., East Greenwich.
