Paul Sunderland Barbour, 79, passed away at the Orange Park Medical in Orange Park, FL on February 10, 2014 , , with family at his side.  Paul was born to the late Melvin and Lillian Barbour on January 21, 1935 in North Kingstown, RI.

Paul joined the US Army in 1953, and was on active duty until 1956, then went into the Army Reserves and completed 8 years of service.  He was a proud Korean War veteran, receiving the Korean, United Nations and National Defense service medals.  At one point he was the Soldier of the Month.

After the serving his country, he managed the Indian Lake Turkey Farm in South Kingstown until about 1962.  Then he started building houses for Smiley and Anderson.  Paul then moved to

Springfield, Vermont where he was in the logging business and also was a steel worker.  He met Annette Sharon in Vermont and became affiliated with the Loyal Order of Moose in 1967, and rose to the rank of Governor.  Paul and Annette married and moved to RI.  Paul worked for General Dynamics at Quonset Point, RI as a security guard and also as a crane operator.  After retiring, they moved to North Carolina, where he again worked as a security guard at the Baptist Assembly in Caswell Beach, NC, and retired again in 2013, prior to going to Moosehaven.

He was an avid fisherma n and hunter.  He also enjoyed boating, clamming and playing cards.  Anyone coming into the family needed to master the card game called 45! He enjoyed hunting in Hadley, NY with his brother Richard and sons Daniel and Norman. Paul and Annette also enjoyed their vacations and visited many areas around the country.  Gardening was another passion.  His garden was always big enough to feed many, not just them.

Paul is survived by his wife of 36 years whom still resides at Moosehaven; Kim Barrett and family of Springfield, VT; Kelly Young and family of Southport, NC; Karen Tierney and family of San Jose, CA; Paula Barbour and family of West Warwick, RI; Daniel Barbour and family of Springfield, VT; Norman Barbour and family of Warwick, RI; sixteen grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Paul is also survived by two brothers, Richard Barbour and family of North Kingstown, RI and Ronald Barbour and family of Minneola, FL.                                  .

Paul was preceded in death by an infant daughter Nancy, and his brother George M. Barbour of North Kingstown, RI.

He will be laid to rest in the Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery at a later date.  Contact the Barbour residence if you would like to be called regarding the date of his graveside service.  401-884-2472.

In lieu of flowers contributions to any local Food Bank would be consistent with his gardening wishes.

Arrangements have been entrusted to THE CRANSTON-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME of WICKFORD.
