John H. Matteson, 99, of North Kingstown, died peacefully at home on Thursday, October 31, 2013. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy E. (Hill) Matteson and the late Ruth (Collins) Matteson. Born in East Greenwich, he was a son of the late Chester G. Matteson and Sadie May (Spink) Matteson.
Mr. Matteson owned and operated John’s Auto Service for many years and worked as a Patrolman for the North Kingstown Police Department. He was a member of Club Jokes in Coventry, where he enjoyed playing Horseshoes. He proudly served in the National Guard.
Besides his wife, he leaves his daughter, Joan Funk of Farmington, NH, and two daughters-in-law, Joan Matteson of Holyoke, MA and Brenda Matteson of Exeter. He was the father of the late John H. Matteson, II and Chester G. Matteson. Cherished Grandfather of 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Clarence Matteson, Waren Matteson, Lawrence Matteson, Blanche Baton, Lucy LaValle, and Bertha Young.
A Graveside Service will be held Monday, November 4, 2013 at 11:00 am in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, 6563 Post Road, North Kingstown. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm in THE CRANSTON-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME of WICKFORD, 140 West Main Street, Wickford Village, North Kingstown.
