Bruce Jay Bailen, 81, of North Kingstown, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Marlene F. (Refold) Bailen. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was a son of the late Samuel and Sadie (Parker) Bailen.

He graduated from Johnson & Wales University with a BA in Business Administration. A twenty-four year Veteran of the US Navy,

Mr. Bailen served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He served on the destroyer the USS Holder DD-819 and was a member of their alumni association. After his retirement he worked for the State of RI, Department of Mental Health for ten years. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association. He was an avid walker with his beloved granddaughter Erica.

Besides his wife, he leaves five children, Barbara Perrino and her husband Charles of Wakefield, Mindy J. of North Kingstown, Jill Walters of Warwick, Ira Lee Bailen and his wife Kathleen M. of Charlton, MA and Allan Bailen of North Kingstown; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was the grandfather of the late Erica Walters; and brother of the late Sybil Strominger and Neil Bailen.

His funeral and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Disabled Veterans National Foundation, 1634 Eye St. NW, Washington, DC 20006 will be appreciated.
