Private Committal Service with Military Honors

East Providence – Theodore R. Stearns, 86, of Irving Avenue died Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. He was the husband of Ruth M. (Domina) Stearns and of the late Meredith L. (Bone) Stearns.
Born in Woonsocket, a son of the late Charles and Rosina (Stenson) Stearns, he previously lived in Warwick and East Greenwich. He graduated from Classical High School and from the URI College of Engineering. He was as an industrial engineer, employed by B.I.F. Industries, a division of General Signal, for over 20 years. He was a United States veteran of the Navy and the Army.
Ted was a member of the East Greenwich United Methodist Church and the East Greenwich Fireman’s Club. He was a Mason and a member of St. Andrews Lodge #39 F&AM, Riverside; the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, and the Swords of Bunker Hill. He was a past patron of Adah Chapter #15, Order of the Eastern Star and a past president of the United Methodist Elder Care House Council.
He was an avid golfer and boater and he loved gardening.
Besides his wife he is survived by his daughter Nancy Rogers of West Warwick; his son Gary T. Stearns of Saunderstown; his three grandchildren Kyle, Jason and Alyse and his great granddaughter Elizabeth. He was predeceased by his six siblings Harriet, Helen, Walter, Ruth, Alice and Ralph.
His funeral service will be held privately on Friday at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick. Burial with military honors will be in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, North Kingstown.
A memorial service, to which relatives and friends are invited, will be held at the United Methodist Retirement Center on a day, and at a time, to be announced.
