Kenneth Thompson Morse, 85, of Peace Dale, RI passed away at home on June 27, 2012. He was born in Winchester, MA on July 15, 1926 and lived in Boston and New York City before settling in Rhode Island with his young family in 1973.
Kenneth graduated from Boston University in 1950 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. He then attended the library school at Columbia University, receiving his Master’s in Library Science in 1954. After graduation, he worked until the 1970s at Columbia University’s Hudson Laboratories in Dobbs Ferry, NY. The mission of the lab was to develop an underwater listening device capable of detecting Soviet submarines.
Kenneth married Judith Martin Corlett on June 25, 1966 in Minneapolis, MN. In 1973, the Morses moved to Rhode Island where Kenneth worked at the University of Rhode Island’s Pell Library at the Bay Campus and main campus library until his retirement in 1996.
Kenneth enjoyed his family, travel, the Point Judith lighthouse, photography, cooking, his dogs, the New York Times, and pipe organ music.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife Judith C. Morse in 1990. He is survived by his loving daughters Elizabeth of Peace Dale, RI and Suzanne of Boston, MA.
A celebration of life will be held at South Ferry Church, 170 South Ferry Road, Narragansett, RI on Friday, July 6, 2012 at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Methuen Memorial Music Hall, 192 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844. Kenneth attended his first organ recital at the Music Hall at age 15 with his father after reading an article about the Music Hall in the Boston Globe. He was a devoted attendee for the rest of his life. Most recently, he attended the opening recital of the Music Hall’s summer recital series in May 2012. The family wishes to thank the staff of Frost One at South County Hospital, South County Quality Care, and Rhode Island Home and Hospice.
