East Greenwich – Jonathan L. Dean, 56, passed away April 12 at Kent Hospital. Born in Stoneham, MA, beloved son of Myrle L. (Smith) Dean and the late Rev. Dr. Lloyd F. Dean; devoted father of Eowyn B. Dean; brother of Judith M. Dean and Janice S. Kinder and her husband Samuel C.; uncle of Elizabeth, Charlotte and James Kinder.
Jonathan was a passionate historian who achieved graduate degrees from UNH and Cambridge U., UK. He taught history aboard US Navy ships, was an adjunct professor at CCRI, and often taught adult church classes. He was a man of integrity and gentle charm, loving family member, loyal friend, wonderful teacher, and true scholar.
Funeral service Sunday, April 22 at 2:30 PM at Greenwood Community Church Presbyterian, 805 Main Avenue, Warwick. Calling hours Saturday, April 21 from 2 – 4 PM at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick. Burial Monday, April 23 at 11 AM in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, North Kingstown. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Rev. Dr. Lloyd F. Dean Scholarship, Gordon College, 255 Grapevine Rd., Wenham, MA 01984.
