BERKE, ARTHUR “NORMAN”, 96, of Warwick and Sunapee, N.H., a retired commercial artist, passed away on September 26 at the Brentwood Nursing Home. He was the husband of Barbara (Perkins) Berke. They were married for 59 years.

Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Arthur W. and Marie C. (Heier) Bjerke. He lived in Norway as a young boy before returning to Providence. He was a graduate of Technical High School in Providence and he attended the Rhode Island School of Design. He served his country in the Air Transport Command of the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II, attaining the rank of technical sergeant. He was employed with Morris Studios in Providence for many years. He was a member of the Sons of Norway.

He is also survived by two sons, Craig N. Berke and his wife, Jennifer, of Richmond, and Bruce A. Berke and his wife, Nancy, of Bow, N.H.: five grandchildren, Lauren, Andrew, Elizabeth, Edward and Hunter: three nephews, and two nieces. He was the brother of the late Roald W. Bjerke and Reidar A. Berke. Funeral services will be private at the request of the family. Please omit flowers.
