Clayton B. Seabury, 70, of North Kingstown passed away peacefully this first week of the New Year 2014. He is survived by his wife Susan, daughter Lynn Fontaine and her husband Joseph, his grandchildren Reneé and Benjamin and his identical twin brother Clifton Seabury.
He was born in Bangor, Maine to parents Arthur and Vera (Latham). Clayton graduated from East Providence High School. His beloved Uncle Rollie took him under his wing and taught him the trade of being an electrician. He spent his early years wiring houses before obtaining his journeyman’s electrician license. He roamed the halls and passageways of the “Superman Building”, the current RISD library, and countless other manufacturing facilities. Clayton specialized in fire alarm systems, spending over two decades on the site of the former Hoechst Celanese plant in Coventry while working for Industrial Electric. He summered in Wickford every year since a child where he made lifelong friends. He moved permanently to Wickford after marriage where he set deep roots. Clayton was a salt of the sea, having completed several sailing expeditions to the St Thomas area from Narragansett Bay. He stayed true to his course of nautical importance enjoying his time on Narragansett Bay while boating or spending countless hours at his local boat yards and builders where he said “I learn something new every day”. He vacationed every year since childhood in Ocean Park, Maine with his family, a tradition given to him by his parents, his father being the visiting camp minister at Oceanwood.
He was an active member in The First Baptist Church in Wickford. He would have celebrated his 45th wedding anniversary with his beloved wife Susan Seabury on January 11th. Clayton was a dedicated family man and great friend to many. He looked forward to simply visiting with his family, or taking his grand kids around the state to share with them his love of museums and nautical destinations. His family and friends were of great importance to him; Clayton cherished talking with all of you and loved to run into old friends in and around town. He was one of those who had the gift to talk with those he just met, we witnessed countless times where he would make them laugh and forget about their troubles.
A viewing will be held on Monday January 6th in The Butterfield Chapel from 4:00-8:00pm. The funeral will be held in The Butterfield Chapel at 10:00am on Tuesday January 7th. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ocean Park Association, PO Box 7296, Ocean Park, ME 04063.
