Bacon, Alice E. (Collier), age 93, died on March 27, 2013 in Providence. She was the widow of Alfred “Pete” Bacon, the daughter of James and Alice Collier, and the sister of the late James M. Collier. She is survived by her son, Alfred and his wife Debbie; grandsons Alfred Jr., Derrick and his wife Joanna, and Brian and his wife Alexandra; great grandson Austin; great granddaughters Addisyn and Caitlyn; beloved nieces and nephews; and dear friends. “Gramma Bac”, as her grandchildren and great grandchildren called her, will be greatly missed.
Mrs. Bacon graduated from Classical High School in Providence and from Rhode Island College and received her master’s degree from the University of Rhode Island. She served for many years as a mathematics teacher and guidance counselor in the Warwick Schools. She was an avid reader and enjoyed travel, the theater, concerts, and socializing with her friends. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of East Greenwich; the Rhode Island Federation of Teachers, the Rhode Island Retired Teachers’ Association and the Kent County Retired Teachers’ Association; Eastern Star; East Greenwich Sunshine; East Greenwich Preservation Society; Rhode Island College and University of Rhode Island Alumni Associations and she supported other organizations and charities.
The funeral will be private. Calling hours will be from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Hill Funeral Home at 822 Main Street, East Greenwich, RI on April 4th 2013. A memorial service will he held at the First Baptist Church, Pierce and Montrose Streets, East Greenwich on April 5th at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Memorial Fund of the First Baptist Church of East Greenwich, P.O. Box 551, East Greenwich, R.I. 02818 would be appreciated.
