Hope C. (Steinhoff)Mortimer, 102, formerly of Capitol Ridge at Providence, passed away on June 4, 2012 at Elmhurst Extended Care Facility. She was the wife of the late Guy N.J. Mortimer. Born in East Providence, she was the daughter of the late Laurence and Frances (Bowen) Steinhoff.
During her lifetime, she focused her efforts in volunteering with RI Congress of Parent Teachers’ Association; Republican Party, 10th Ward Republican Committee; Salvation Army, South Providence advisory Council; Providence Public Library; Rhode Island Historical Society; The International Institute; RI Tuberculosis & Respiratory Disease Association and Calvary Baptist Church.
She is survived by her son Paul W. Mortimer, Sr. and his wife, Mary Ellen of Warwick; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren with her tenth grandchild due shortly. She was predeceased by her daughter Hope E.M. Marsella.
A funeral service will be at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick, RI 02893 at 10 AM with visitation from 9:30- 10AM prior to the service, followed with interment at Quidnessett Cemetery in North Kingstown. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in her memory may be sent to Calvary Baptist Church, 747 Broad Street, Providence, RI 02907.
