Monday, September 26, 2011 following 10:00am funeral in The Urquhart-Murphy Funeral Home (Section 49 Lot 42 Grave 4)
Janet E. MacLaughlan, 82, formerly of Sargent Street, Warwick passed away Thursday at Scallop Shell Nursing Home. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Alexander J. and Ruth (Norden) MacLaughlan.
Miss MacLaughlan was an educator for the Warwick School System 36 years until her retirement in 1986. She began her career at Norwood School where four generations of her family had been educated. She was a graduate of Aldrich High School, class of 1946 and R.I.C.E., class of 1950. Janet was a member of Norwood Baptist Church, where she was active for many years in the activities of the church and a founding member of Washington Oaks.
She was the loving aunt of Beverly J. Miller and her husband Michael of Saunderstown, William M. Pratt, Jr. of Wakefield, Marsha J. Middlemiss and her husband Gerald of Warwick, Jane M. McLaughlin of Wakefield, Barbara J. Kelly and her husband John of Charlestown and the late Nancy J. Pratt. Cherished grandaunt of eleven grandnieces and grandnephews. She was the sister of the late R. Jean Nelson and Eleanor Jane Pratt.
Her Funeral Service will be held Monday at 10:00 am in THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Route 5, Warwick (Exit 12A on I-95). Burial will follow in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, North Kingstown. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Sunday 2-4 pm.
