Shirley Louise Salerno, 92 of Clarks Hill South Carolina and formerly of Warwick, died Sunday August 14, 2011at Doctor’s Hospital, Augusta, GA. She was the wife of the late Lee Salerno.

Born in North Brookfield, MA, she was the daughter of the late Edwin and Louise Estelle (Macdonald) Nelson. Mrs. Salerno grew up in Shrewsbury, MA with her three sisters and brother. She married her husband Lee at 19 and they enjoyed 66 years together.She was a stay-at-home mom and housewife. She and Lee enjoyed dancing, bicycling, gardening and collecting. She had one son, Richard and two grandchildren Sandy and David and she enjoyed making them special birthday cakes. Baking was another one of her hobbies. She had a great collection of dolls and Hummel’s, admired by family and friends. Shirley and Lee enjoyed traveling to New Mexico to visit their son and his horses. They also traveled to Barbados and Hawaii with their friends.

Besides her son Richard and his wife Mary and her grandchildren, she is survived by six great grandchildren, Tanya, Krysta, Jessica, Jennifer, Joshua and Jordan and three great great grandchildren, Joey, Jakob and Tommy and her sisters, June R. Chilcutt and Estelle E. Jacobson. She was the sister of the late Virginia B. Rowland and Donald B. Nelson

Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home and Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick, Friday August 19, 2011 callings hours from 11:30 to 12:30 with a funeral service to follow at 12:30 pm. Burial will be in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, North Kingstown.
