Members of Boy Scout Troop 152, led by Travis Sampson, replaced over 1200 worn and faded flags decorating the graves of U.S. Veterans at Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery in North Kingstown, Rhode Island.

Star Scout, Travis Sampson directs the scouts in the replacement plan.

The Troop annually replaces the flags as a service to the community.

The “TRINITY TRIO” will perform on Memorial Day at Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery next to the Pond.  Covered seating and light refreshments are provided for visitors to the cemetery.

The Trio has Manny Morales on trumpet, Willie  Grear on piano, and Max Grear on bass.  These talented musicians are all students at South Kingstown High School.

Groundskeepers cleanup after Irene

A week’s worth of clearing work for groundskeepers!

By the time Hurricane Irene reached us it was a tropical storm.  High speed winds and rain caused tree limbs and branches to drop and littered much of the grounds at Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery. Only two trees came down, but thankfully, did not do any damage.

We estimate it will take up to a week to clear all the debris, so be careful when driving through the cemetery and please avoid any roads that have not been cleared.

Although the cemetery never lost power its phone lines were down until late yesterday afternoon.   Most of  our staff, however, are without power at home and do not know when their power will be restored, which may take up to a week.  Many of you can probably relate, and we hope you are safe and sound.

The Katie DeCubellis Memorial Foundation (KDMF)

When their thirteen year old daughter, Katie, was killed by a drunk driver in 1999, her parents, Margaret and John DeCubellis, turned their grief into a mission to influence others against drunk driving through a foundation they organized and named in memory of their daughter.

Through speaking engagements at middle schools around the country and videos produced for the Rhode Island Driver’s Education programs, Meg and John have been able to reach hundreds of thousands with their message about the dangers and deadly consequences of driving while under the influence.  For more information click here to visit the Katie DeCubellis Memorial Foundation website.

Margaret R. DeCubellis joined the Board of Directors at Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery after being unanimously voted in during its June 15, 2010 Corporation Meeting.
