Lot owners of the cemetery are welcome to attend our Annual Lot Owners and Corporation meeting for an opportunity to meet and provide feedback to its Board of Directors.

The meeting will be held in the cemetery office located at: 6365 Post Road, North Kingstown, Rhode Island. We look forward to seeing you!

Lot owners of the cemetery are welcome to attend our Annual Lot Owners and Corporation meeting.

Each year lot owners are offered an opportunity to learn more about the cemetery and its current operations via reports by Chairpersons of its various Committees, which will be distributed at the meeting. It is also a time for lot owners to provide feedback to the Board of Directors, who likewise are lot owners of the cemetery elected to serve on the Board of Directors for Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery.

Tuesday, February 7, 2012 following 9:00am funeral at the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home and 10:00am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Timothy Church (Section 63 Lot 3 Grave 7)

WHITE, ALICE L., 87, of Warwick died peacefully at Rhode Island Hospital on February 3rd after a very brief illness. She was surrounded by her loving family and close friends who celebrated her life as a beautiful and dedicated mother, friend and business colleague.

She was the wife of the late John F. White. They were married for 39 years. Together they established a family-owned small business which was founded in 1952.

She is survived by her son Steven J. White; her daughters Patricia L. Baker and her husband John Baker, Jr.; Laureen L. White-Taricani and her husband Jim Taricani; Maureen L. White and her fiancee Gary D. Hess; in addition to three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Alice was President of the John F. White & Company, a wholesale heating supply distributor in Providence. She was a proud member of the local oil heat industry. Right up until her passing, she put in full, twelve-hour work days, each and every day, servicing her beloved customers, many of whom called her “mama.” She took over the family business from her husband in 1983, after his death, and together with her son, Steve, relished the opportunity to carry on the business in his memory. She did so with elegance, intelligence, kindness and savvy. Fiercely modest, she was considered by others to be a leader and role model in her industry. She was profiled in the trade publication Fuel Oil News in December 2011. The article, “Women in the Industry” noted her passion and work ethic: “Alice could well retire, but due to her dedication to her customers, she can be found daily at the counter greeting and serving their needs. Over the years Alice has gained a wealth of product knowledge and can assist in solving many trade related issues,” stated the article. “Let’s show our appreciation when they least expect it.”

In addition to her family and her family-run business, Alice loved the beach, the Boston Red Sox, Irish and Big Band music, vintage automobiles, and interacting with puppies and kitties of all types. She was a member of the former Canonchet Beach Club in Narragansett where she hosted cookouts on the cabana for her family and friends for decades. She was an Officer and a Director of the Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery. She was a proud and long-time member of the Oil Heat Institute of Rhode Island, the National Association of Oil and Energy Service Professionals and the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce.

Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 7, at 9 a.m. from the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Timothy Church, 1799 Warwick Avenue, Warwick. Visiting hours are Monday 4-8 p.m. Burial will be in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery in North Kingstown. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Norman Prince Neurosciences Institute, c/o Rhode Island Hospital, P.O. Box H, Providence, Rhode Island 02901. Her family is most grateful to the compassionate team of medical and chaplaincy professionals who shepherded her safe and peaceful journey into God’s hands.

Arthur E. Clark Jr., 84, of North Kingstown, passed away Sunday at Philip Huliter Inpatient Center in Providence.

He was born in Providence on January 2, 1927 to the late Arthur E. and Claire (San Souci) Clark and was the beloved nephew of the late J. Adolf and Anna (Clark) Johnson.

Foremost in his many lifelong accomplishments, he was most proud of his family. He is survived by four children, Audrey R. Jordan and her husband Lester, David J. Clark and his wife Meryl, Jani L. Cushing and her husband Stanley and Jeffrey A. Clark; eight grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Robert J. Clark and companion Eleanor Welch.

Mr. Clark was a United States World War II veteran serving in the 9th Air Force, Army Air Corps. He received his education from Carson Long Military Institute and Nichols College where he would later serve as Vice Chairman of the Nichols College Board of Trustees.

He was president and owner of J. Adolf Johnson, Inc. Builders, of Johnson-Clark Realty Co. and was a past president of the Rhode Island Chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America.
In the 1950′s he was elected Majority Leader of the then twenty member Cranston City Council and he served on the Cranston Zoning Board of Review. As Chairman of the Cranston City Property Committee he was actively involved in the initial planning of finance for and construction of the city’s second high school, Cranston West. His lifelong community service brought several distinct honors. As a Co-founder of the Cranston Jaycees he was the first recipient of the Rhode Island State Jaycees Distinguished Service Award and as a member of the East Greenwich Rotary Club he was named five times a Paul Harris Fellow.
His civic involvement also included serving as president of the Executives Association of RI, and as a Trustee for the Rocky Hill School in East Greenwich and for Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery in North Kingstown. He also served on the governing boards of the Plum Beach Club; the Rhode Island Association for the Blind; the Rhode Island Council, Girl Scouts of America and, the South County Council, Navy League of USA.

As a freemason he was a member of Doric Lodge #38 A.F. & A.M., now affiliated with Harmony Lodge #9 F. & A.M, Cranston; the Scottish Rite, Valley of Providence; the Tall Cedars of Lebanon and the Rhode Island Shriners. He presently was also a member of the Scandinavian Home “Gamlas Vanners” Society.
He also was a member of the former Turks Head Club Round Table; the Squantum Association; the Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association; the American Legion, Auburn Post #20; the Greenwich Bay Power Squadron; the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Providence; the American Arbitration Association; the Netopian Club of Providence and a charter member of the Gator Creek Golf Club in Sarasota, FL.

His passion for travel brought him around the world visiting seven continents and 132 countries.

His funeral will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2011 at 11:00 in St. Luke’s Church, 99 Peirce Street, East Greenwich. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Wednesday from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick. Burial, with military honors will be in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, North Kingstown. Memorial gifts made to Home and Hospice Care of Rhode Island or St. Elizabeth Home, East Greenwich would be appreciated.

Lot Owner forms Foundation for Daughter Killed by Drunk Driver and joins QMC Board

When their thirteen year old daughter, Katie, was killed by a drunk driver in 1999, her parents, Margaret and John DeCubellis, turned their grief into a mission to influence others against drunk driving through a foundation they organized and named in memory of their daughter.

Through speaking engagements at middle schools around the country and videos produced for the Rhode Island Driver’s Education programs, Meg and John have been able to reach hundreds of thousands with their message about the dangers and deadly consequences of driving while under the influence. Edward C. Christensen, 94, of Edgewater Rd., Wakefield, died Wednesday at South County Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Judith (Holberton) Christensen for seventy two years. Born in Hartwick, NY, he was the son of the late Christian and Maria Christensen.

Mr. Christensen worked as the manager for the former M & M Oil Co. from 1961 to 1981. He was a master craftsman and enjoyed woodworking. He was a longtime member and elder of Quidnessett Baptist Church, Gideons’s International, a board member of Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery and Wakefield Rotary.

Mr. Christensen was the loving father of Edward Christensen and his wife Marsha of West Kingston and Cheryl Gale-Johnson of Wakefield; grandfather of Scott Christensen, Chuck Gale and the late Dana Christensen; great grandfather of one and great- great grandfather of three. He also leaves a niece Connie Derby and her husband Steve of Tiverton. A graveside service will be held Wednesday June 29th at 1:00 PM in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, North Kingstown.
